Dear Fellow Educator,
When I retired from teaching young children after thirty-three years, I never expected to write a children's book. I got inspired one day while thinking about how much children need to value their individuality as well as others' qualities. With my husband's support, I was able to self-publish my first book. The next surprise was the idea of sharing my story with students and teachers in schools. Doing so allows me to spend time with children and educators which I miss dearly.
I have two goals when I visit schools:
to get Honey’s important message to as many children as possible.
to share my experience as a new writer with students while hopefully inspiring them to write more.
I am not a well-known author, but I do need to cover my expenses. I request the following compensation for my visit:
$0.50/mile to travel to your school (round trip).
modest lodging if necessary.
The purchase of at least ten signed books for teachers, counselors or students to share at a discounted cost ($150 total) OR $25 fee each day I visit.
As a retired educator, I believe I bring to lessons what teachers want students to hear while engaging students with stories of my journey as a new author. I always bring my original illustrations for students to hold which is exciting for them. One suggestion is to have the groups that I meet with be as small as possible. More than two classes at a time make it challenging for children to stay engaged.
